Migration horror stories

Most migrations lose traffic. They do not have to.

The redirect map was an afterthought.

Every old URL that returns a 404 is a ranking you paid years to earn and threw away on launch day. A proper migration maps every single one before anything goes live.

The data came across wrong.

Variant options collapsed, metafields lost, customer passwords reset, order history gone. Recovering after launch is far harder than getting it right before.

Nobody planned for launch week.

DNS propagation, live inventory sync, payment gateway testing and a support inbox filling up. Migration is a project management problem as much as a technical one.

What is included

A migration that keeps what you already earned.

Pre migration audit

Full crawl of the existing site, URL inventory, top page and top keyword export from Search Console, structured data audit and a data model map.

Data migration

Products, variants, images, collections, customers, order history, discount codes and reviews. Verified with a row count reconciliation, not a hope.

Complete redirect map

Every old URL mapped to a new one, 301 redirected. Nothing 404s. Verified with a post launch crawl.

SEO parity check

Title tags, meta descriptions, heading structure, canonical tags, structured data and internal links carried across or deliberately improved.

Store build on Shopify

The new store designed and built to our standard, not a rushed lift and shift. Migration is the right moment to fix what was broken.

Launch runbook

A dated, hour by hour launch plan covering DNS, payments, inventory, email flows and a rollback path.

Why Devoq Tech

The anti-agency agency.

Fixed timelines.In writing.

Every proposal includes a delivery date. We've never missed one. If we ever do, you get 10% off. That's how confident we are.

You talk to the people doing the work.

No account managers playing telephone. You get a direct line to the designer and developer building your store, over Slack or email.

Daily updates.

The number one reason brands fire agencies is silence. You'll get a progress update every working day. You will never chase us for status.

Shopify only.Since day one.

We don't do WordPress. We don't do Wix. Every hour we've ever billed has been on Shopify, and that depth shows up in your store.

What clients say

Brands don't leave reviews for average work.

Every project ships with a delivery date in writing. These are the brands that held us to it.

Migration FAQ

What brands ask before switching platforms.

Will I lose my Google rankings when I migrate to Shopify?

Not if the redirect map is complete. Rankings attach to URLs, so every old URL must 301 redirect to its closest new equivalent before launch. Expect a short dip of two to four weeks while Google recrawls, then recovery. Migrations that lose traffic permanently almost always skipped or rushed the redirect map. After cutover most brands need a Shopify store redesign on the new platform.

How long does a Shopify migration take?

Four to six weeks for a typical catalogue, including the new store build. A pure data migration with no design work can be faster. Very large catalogues, complex B2B pricing or heavy custom functionality push it longer and often need custom Shopify development.

Do customer passwords come across?

No. Passwords are hashed on every platform and cannot be transferred. Customers keep their accounts, order history and saved addresses, but they will be asked to reset their password on first login. We prepare a customer email announcing this so it does not feel like a broken site.

Can we migrate without downtime?

Yes. The new store is built and tested on a Shopify staging domain while the old site stays live. Launch is a DNS switch, so the actual cutover is minutes rather than days.

What happens to our order history?

Historical orders import into Shopify as records, so your team can look them up and customers can see them in their account. Note that imported orders do not carry live fulfilment or payment capture status from the old system, which is expected behaviour.

Should we migrate to Shopify or Shopify Plus?

Standard Shopify handles most brands well past seven figures. Plus makes sense when you need checkout customisation, B2B company accounts, higher API limits or multiple regional storefronts. We will tell you honestly if standard Shopify covers you, because the price difference is significant.
